2nd International Edinburgh Open

11th May 2013, Portobello Town Hall, Edinburgh.

On May 11, 2013 our Edinburgh-based  karate club "Tiger Dojo" organized a second tournament dedicated to the memory of Masutatsu Oyama.

The tournament was attended by 50 competitors (kata and kumite diciplines).

Members of the club occupied 11 medal positions.

This year we welcomed competitors from Spain, England, Scotland, Germany, Hungary and Poland.

The main judge was Shihan Klaus Rex 6th Dan (Denmark), Chairman of the European Organisation Kyokushin Karate. He was assisted in judging by Shihan Roman Kucfir, 5th Dan (England), Shihan Henrik Rosager, 5th Dan (Denmark), Sensei Orla  Hansen, 4th Dan (Denmark), Mateusz Wojcik ,2nd Dan (England) and Michal Kosman, 1st Dan (Scotland).

The level of competition was greater at this year's tournament, as we were able to welcome several talented fighters from Europe, and therefore we feel the tournament has been a great success.

We were pleased to welcome Councillor Maureen Child and Kenny MacAskill MSP. In addition, we made two new friends in Iain Rodger (Chief Instructor, Kyokushinkai Karate Scotland) and Sensei Callum Dick (Head Instructor, Goju Ryu Martial Arts Academy).

We also managed to raise some funds for Kiltwalk Edinburgh by having a "Name-the-bear" Competition, which one of our members was taking part in.

After the tournament, a traditional Sayonara took place in a Chinese restaurant in Edinburgh, which was entertaining and relaxing for everyone who was able to attend.

On Sunday 12th May we held a seminar in Portobello Town Hall where Shihan Rex and Shihan Rosager, assisted by Sensei Hansen, gave talks and demonstrations which were of huge benefit to everyone at our dojo.

We look forward to our next tournament on 3rd May 2014!
